The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child to the world on Saturday morning (2nd May) at 8.34am. She was born in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London, weighing 8 pounds and 3 oz which is a little lighter than her big brother George who was 8 pounds 6 oz.
After weeks of speculation the royal couple have chosen to name their new addition Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge. Elizabeth of course is the name of her great-grandmother, our Queen and Diana is the name of her late grandmother.

Charlotte will be 4th in line to the throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, her father Prince William and her older brother Prince George. She has pushed William’s brother Harry down into 5th in line. After a recent change, Charlotte’s claim to the throne will not be altered even if she has a future younger brother.

Charlotte returned back to Kensington Palace with her parents on Saturday evening and will eventually move to Anmer Hall on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk where the family is keen to keep the children’s lives out of the public eye as much as possible. HRH Princess Charlotte is likely to travel overseas before her first birthday, just like her brother George did when he accompanied his parents on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The Duke and Duchess are expected to plan another foreign tour in the spring of 2016, possibly taking in the Caribbean this time.
