Remember all the favourites from your own childhood? Roland Rat, Bagpuss, Paddington, the Wombles, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, Spot the Dog, Snoopy and Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Jemima Puddle-Duck? Well your baby can now share the same fond memories that you did growing up, as all of these characters are now available as nostalgic cuddly toys.

Earlier this year, Paddington Bear was crowned the UK’s best animated character at the ninth British Animation Awards. He beat Wallace and Gromit, Alexandsadr Meerkat and Super Ted to this prestigious title. Paddington Bear was created in 1958 by former BBC cameraman Michael Bond who published Paddington’s first story in this year.

The Wombles, featuring Uncle Bulgaria, Orinoco, Bungo, Tobermory and Madam Cholet were also an extremely popular animated series. They were created by author Elizabeth Beresford whose first story was published in 1968. The Wombles that we know and love were based on Wimbledon Common.

Bagpuss was another firm favourite of the 1970s and 80s. Appearing on screen since 1974, Bagpuss was ‘an old, saggy cloth cat, baggy, and a bit loose at the seams’. Only 13 episodes were made of Bagpuss, but were repeated many times and for good reason – British children loved it and it won the ‘Nation’s Favourite Children’s TV show’ in a BBC poll on 1999.

We hope this information has reconnected you with fond childhood memories of watching these lovable characters of TV. Buy a nostalgic cuddly toy version of them today for your baby’s first birthday.
